The importance of proper lumbar support cannot be underestimated. Damage to the musculature in the lumbar area can result in excruciating pain. In addition, the damage may ultimately lead to a decreased capacity to walk, even possibly causing paralysis if enough damage is done to the area. For anyone who notices slight twinges of pain in the lower back, taking steps to secure some type of back support could make a substantial impact on the quality of life in future years.
Astaxanthin – This is one of the most effective oil-soluble antioxidants known to man today. Astaxanthin has very potent anti-inflammatory properties. In some cases, it may even be more effective than NSAIDs. You may need to take high doses of this antioxidant (as much as eight milligrams a day), though, to achieve this benefit.
Sleeping on one’s side with the knees drawn up in a fetal position can help open up the joints in the spine and relieve pressure by reducing the curvature of the spine. Always sleep on a firm surface.
The human back is composed of a complex structure of muscles, ligaments, tendons, disks and bones – the segments of our spine are cushioned with cartilage-like pads called disks. Problems with any of these components can lead to back pain. In some cases of back pain, its cause is never found.
Add a special lumbar cushion to your car to help you stay comfortable and avoid back cramping while driving. This is especially helpful if you plan on taking a long trip or if your daily commute is fairly long. Concentrate on your work and get more done during the work day with an easy to set up lumbar support cushion. You can find the perfect lumbar support cushion; one that molds to your shape, like a memory foam cushion.
Back pain is one of the most common reasons people self-treat and seek medical care. It will affect approximately three in four adults during their lifetime. When we speak about “back pain” we mean pain that originates in the spine anywhere between the upper and lower back.
When taking an Epsom salt bath, you’ll want to make sure the water is warm. Hot water can cause muscles to swell and cold water can cause muscles to cramp. The Arthritis Foundation recommends a temperature between 92 and 100°F (33 and 38°C). Temperatures higher than 104°F (40°C) aren’t recommended, especially if you have heart problems.
The material breathes and you will not be hot on your body having perspiration to deal with. The memory foam interior will not go flat maintaining its shape for years. Align your spine, increase blood circulation and those pinched nerves that happen when lower lumbar discs compress. The cushion contours to your back shape and has an adjustable strap to fasten securely to your work chair or home chairs.
Bony encroachment: Any condition that results in movement or growth of the vertebrae of the lumbar spine can limit the space (encroachment) for the adjacent spinal cord and nerves. Causes of bony encroachment of the spinal nerves include foraminal narrowing (narrowing of the portal through which the spinal nerve passes from the spinal column, out of the spinal canal to the body, commonly as a result of arthritis), spondylolisthesis (slippage of one vertebra relative to another), and spinal stenosis (compression of the nerve roots or spinal cord by bony spurs or other soft tissues in the spinal canal). Spinal-nerve compression in these conditions can lead to sciatica pain that radiates down the lower extremities. Spinal stenosis can cause lower-extremity pains that worsen with walking and are relieved by resting (mimicking the pains of poor circulation). Treatment of these afflictions varies, depending on their severity, and ranges from rest and exercises to epidural cortisone injections and surgical decompression by removing the bone that is compressing the nervous tissue.
The aorta blood vessels that transport blood to and from the lower extremities pass in front of the lumbar spine in the abdomen and pelvis. Surrounding these blood vessels are lymph nodes (lymph glands) and tissues of the involuntary nervous system that are important in maintaining bladder and bowel control.

Nerve irritation: The nerves of the lumbar spine can be irritated by mechanical pressure (impingement) by bone or other tissues, or from disease, anywhere along their paths — from their roots at the spinal cord to the skin surface. These conditions include lumbar disc disease (radiculopathy), bony encroachment, and inflammation of the nerves caused by a viral infection (shingles). See descriptions of these conditions below.
Electrodiagnostics are procedures that, in the setting of low back pain, are primarily used to confirm whether a person has lumbar radiculopathy. The procedures include electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), and evoked potential (EP) studies. EMG assesses the electrical activity in a muscle and can detect if muscle weakness results from a problem with the nerves that control the muscles. Very fine needles are inserted in muscles to measure electrical activity transmitted from the brain or spinal cord to a particular area of the body. NCSs are often performed along with EMG to exclude conditions that can mimic radiculopathy. In NCSs, two sets of electrodes are placed on the skin over the muscles. The first set provides a mild shock to stimulate the nerve that runs to a particular muscle. The second set records the nerve’s electrical signals, and from this information nerve damage that slows conduction of the nerve signal can be detected. EP tests also involve two sets of electrodes—one set to stimulate a sensory nerve, and the other placed on the scalp to record the speed of nerve signal transmissions to the brain.

Most of the common middle back pain causes overlap with the causes of lower back pain. However, many people suffer from pain in the middle back because of poor postures maintained when seated or sleeping. People prone to muscle cramps or spasms are also more likely to suffer from pain in the middle back.
Abdominal aortic aneurysms occur when the large blood vessel that supplies blood to the abdomen, pelvis, and legs becomes abnormally enlarged. Back pain can be a sign that the aneurysm is becoming larger and that the risk of rupture should be assessed.
Moreover, the use of polyester for the cover ensures it will hold up to daily wear and tear. It is also moisture wicking, pulling sweat away from the lower back allowing for easy evaporation and keeping you cool.

I have chronic lower back pain and have used lumbar supports of several different varieties over the last 15 years. I needed to replace the support used in my car and I thought that a mesh version might be better than the memory foam because it can keep my back ventilated. After experimenting with this support on several different type of chairs I’ve determined that it is not suitable for my condition. The design of the support relies on the top and bottom part of it to rest and press against the back of the chair. For my needs the bottom part of the support needs to meet (rest on) the seat of the chair so that I can get the support in my lower back. For any chair that has a gap between the back and the seat (like many) the bottom part of the support slides into the gap and the resulting support is minimal. For all the pictures showing the item in use on this listing there is no pressure on the support. If there were you’d see how the bottom part gets pushed into the gap. For chairs where the back does meet the seat (like a car seat) the back cannot be soft (like a car seat). Reason, as previously stated the design of the support relies on the top and bottom of it to push against the back of the chair. For upholstered chair backs, what happens is the minimal surface area of the support (basically a hard wire) pushes into the soft seat back. Once it does, it offers little in the way of support. So, for me, the only type of chair that this actually works on is a rigid chair back that meets the seat like, perhaps, a dining room chair. It does not provide support for office chairs and car bucket seats. When looking for a new support it was a toss-up between the memory foam (not just regular foam) and the mesh. I thought I’d give the mesh a try and as a result of my experiments, I’m returning this support and going back to the tried-and-true memory foam for my needs.
