I’ve had it a couple months and the straps are already starting to lose tension and break down. Probably wouldn’t buy again.

Don’t try to lift objects that are too heavy. Lift from the knees, pull the stomach muscles in, and keep the head down and in line with a straight back. When lifting, keep objects close to the body. Do not twist when lifting.

The medication typically recommended first are NSAIDs (though not aspirin) or skeletal muscle relaxants and these are enough for most people.[13][6] Benefits with NSAIDs; however, is often small.[66] High-quality reviews have found acetaminophen (paracetamol) to be no more effective than placebo at improving pain, quality of life, or function.[67][68] NSAIDs are more effective for acute episodes than acetaminophen; however, they carry a greater risk of side effects including: kidney failure, stomach ulcers and possibly heart problems. Thus, NSAIDs are a second choice to acetaminophen, recommended only when the pain is not handled by the latter. NSAIDs are available in several different classes; there is no evidence to support the use of COX-2 inhibitors over any other class of NSAIDs with respect to benefits.[69][13][70] With respect to safety naproxen may be best.[71] Muscle relaxants may be beneficial.[13]

Muscles are the usual root of lumbar back pain. It can be from muscle strain, not working your muscles correctly and a number of other reasons that only a medical professional can tell you. Do you lift correctly? Do you lift things that are too heavy not using your leg muscles? Do you bend and stay bent for long times? Did you pull your back muscles?

Backpack overload in children: Low back pain unrelated to injury or other known cause is unusual in pre-teen children. However, a backpack overloaded with schoolbooks and supplies can strain the back and cause muscle fatigue. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons recommends that a child’s backpack should weigh no more than 15 to 20 percent of the child’s body weight.

Disc herniation: A herniated disc is a rupture or tear of the cartilage that surrounds the vertebral discs. Pressure from the vertebrae above and below the affected disc squeezes the cushioning substance (nucleus pulposus) out of the disc. The nucleus pulposus can press against spinal nerve roots. This can cause severe leg pain and may cause nerve damage if not treated properly.

Lower back pain, also called lumbago, is not a disorder. It’s a symptom of several different types of medical problems. It usually results from a problem with one or more parts of the lower back, such as:

Back pain and Fish Oil: Fish oil is high in two fatty acids known as DHA and EPA, which help to relieve pain in the joints. Therefore, many people are asked to either increase their intake of fish or take fish oil supplements for back pain relief.

Counter-irritants such as creams or sprays applied topically stimulate the nerves in the skin to provide feelings of warmth or cold in order to dull the sensation of pain. Topical analgesics reduce inflammation and stimulate blood flow.

Massage therapy may give short-term pain relief, but not functional improvement, for those with acute lower back pain.[30] It may also give short-term pain relief and functional improvement for those with long-term (chronic) and sub-acute lower pack pain, but this benefit does not appear to be sustained after 6 months of treatment.[30] There does not appear to be any serious adverse effects associated with massage.[30]

Big Pharma recently began promoting Humira, an expensive drug with a price tag of nearly 20,000 dollars a year. Humira is touted to help treat ankylosing spondylitis, a chronic inflammatory disease of the axial skeleton, which includes the spine. It is outrageous how drug companies promote this dangerous drug for an exceedingly rare cause of low back pain – one that is only responsible for less than a tenth of a tenth of one percent of low back pain! What’s more, Humira may cause severe side effects, such as:

It’s more accurate to find the specific body positions (if any) that cause back pain, like standing or sitting slouched forcing your back muscles to remain contracted. Also, pain or no pain, we all tend to sit too much. Increasing glute strength and in our mid-back muscles, which are lengthened when we sit, can help us to fight the negative effects of sitting and slouching.

In light of the limited efficacy of surgical intervention, doctors have been tackling chronic back pain with pills. Painkillers disrupt the body’s efforts to relay nerve signals to the brain, dulling the subsequent discomfort. But here, too, back pain sufferers should be cautious. In three separate large analyses published between 2015 and this year, researchers at the University of Sydney and their colleagues compared evidence from dozens of studies to determine how well various pharmaceutical options assuage back pain and found all the drugs lacking. Acetaminophen, for example, was no more effective than a placebo. Other drugs did provide some relief but came with costs, particularly when used for long periods. Some over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen, can cause stomach ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding. Prescription opioids, meanwhile, can be addictive and may lead to overdose. “Drugs can be an ally, but they shouldn’t be the core of treatment,” says back pain researcher Manuela Ferreira, one of the Sydney scientists who worked on the anti-inflammatory and acetaminophen study.

Researchers have been questioning the costs for a long time, however, and increasingly, the medical community is considering a much simpler solution. Mounting evidence suggests that exercise is among the best remedies because it is able to reduce pain, improve mobility and prevent future discomfort. “[Back pain is] not the only thing that’s been overmedicalized,” says back pain specialist Daniel C. Cherkin of the Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute.* “But it’s probably the poster child for how things can go wrong in terms of patient outcomes and cost to society.”

In doing so, a lumbar support prevents back and even more serious back problems, some of which require extensive therapy to resolve. Another benefit is that lumbar supports are affordable and extremely easy to use. Good lumbar supports are transportable, regardless of the style.

I have chronic lower back pain and have used lumbar supports of several different varieties over the last 15 years. I needed to replace the support used in my car and I thought that a mesh version might be better than the memory foam because it can keep my back ventilated. After experimenting with this support on several different type of chairs I’ve determined that it is not suitable for my condition. The design of the support relies on the top and bottom part of it to rest and press against the back of the chair. For my needs the bottom part of the support needs to meet (rest on) the seat of the chair so that I can get the support in my lower back. For any chair that has a gap between the back and the seat (like many) the bottom part of the support slides into the gap and the resulting support is minimal. For all the pictures showing the item in use on this listing there is no pressure on the support. If there were you’d see how the bottom part gets pushed into the gap. For chairs where the back does meet the seat (like a car seat) the back cannot be soft (like a car seat). Reason, as previously stated the design of the support relies on the top and bottom of it to push against the back of the chair. For upholstered chair backs, what happens is the minimal surface area of the support (basically a hard wire) pushes into the soft seat back. Once it does, it offers little in the way of support. So, for me, the only type of chair that this actually works on is a rigid chair back that meets the seat like, perhaps, a dining room chair. It does not provide support for office chairs and car bucket seats. When looking for a new support it was a toss-up between the memory foam (not just regular foam) and the mesh. I thought I’d give the mesh a try and as a result of my experiments, I’m returning this support and going back to the tried-and-true memory foam for my needs.
