Yoga may be an effective strategy for alleviating back pain by making people more aware of how they move their bodies. The benefits of yoga were proven in a study of more than 100 adults with lower back pain. After taking weekly yoga classes for 12 weeks, the participants, who were between ages 20 to 64, experienced improvement in their body function and a reduced need for pain medication. At the end of the study, only 21 percent of the patients who take the yoga class were taking pain medication, down from almost 60 percent at the start.
Lumbar support is the process of providing adequate support to the muscles and skeletal structure of the lower back. In many instances, the focus of the support is on providing adequate support for the lower back while the individual is in a seated position. However, there are other devices that may lend support to the back while an individual is standing or walking.
Most experts agree that prolonged bed rest is associated with a longer recovery period. Further, people on bed rest are more likely to develop depression, blood clots in the leg, and decreased muscle tone. Very few experts recommend more than a 48-hour period of decreased activity or bed rest. In other words, get up and get moving to the extent you can.

The low back supports the weight of the upper body and provides mobility for everyday motions such as bending and twisting. Muscles in the low back are responsible for flexing and rotating the hips while walking, as well as supporting the spinal column. Nerves in the low back supply sensation and power the muscles in the pelvis, legs, and feet.
Sydney’s Chris Maher, who is an author on the exercise and drug studies, suspects that the particular kind of exercise you end up choosing may be much less important to solving the problem than simply finding a way to be more active. “The best form of exercise,” he asserts, “is the one you’re going to stick with.”
In a pinch, an easy way to add lumbar support is to roll a towel up and place it behind your back. You can use it in bed, in a sitting position, and even your car. Depending on the amount of lumbar support you want, you can adjust the thickness of the roll by using small or large towel.

Posture when sitting – a good seat should have good back support, arm rests and a swivel base (for working). When sitting try to keep your knees and hips level and keep your feet flat on the floor – if you can’t, use a footstool. You should ideally be able to sit upright with support in the small of your back. If you are using a keyboard, make sure your elbows are at right-angles and that your forearms are horizontal.
So what are the common symptoms of back pain? The symptoms of upper back pain are quite varied and may include muscle spasms, discomfort while inhaling, weakness in the arms, restricted neck movements, and a pinching feeling between the shoulder blades. These upper back symptoms could be an indication of an injury to a disc which is in the upper part of the spine.
I would even go as far as suggesting that proper posture and exercise education should be a part of our school education. We learn all kinds of nonsense in the school, so why not learn how to live a healthier and better life…?
